  1. Coke bid blocked • The Ministry of Commerce announced Wednesday that Coca-Cola’s bid to acquire China Huiyuan Juice Group failed to meet the country’s anti-monopoly law and threatened to bring market competition with negative effects. Huiyuan slumped 19.42% before being halted from trading in Hong Kong at 10:13 am Wednesday. Coca-Cola offered to purchase Huiyuan for HK$17.92b in cash last September.

Taiwan reaps tour boom • More than 100,000 visitors from the mainland have visited Taiwan since the island opened up tourism for mainland residents on July 18 last year, according to the latest statistics released by Cross-Straits Tourism Exchange Association. Such visits bring Taiwan direct economic benefits of more than NT$1b based on an estimation of lowest per capitaconsumption of NT$10000 during such tours.

  3. Duck believes she’s a dog • A duck in Dorset, UK, has become a local celebrity with its dog-emulating behavior. Essy, who was raised from the age of 8 weeks with 2 dogs, believes she is a dog. She wags her tail, attempts to bark, goes up to other dogs and her owner has even put Essy on her own leash. The other 2 dogs are protective of her and walk on both sides of her.

Dubai bans holding hands • Playing loud music, dancing, nudity, kissing and even holding hands in public is considered inappropriate under new behavior guidelines laid down by the authorities of Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Any breach(违反) of the guidelines, by locals or foreigners, carries a possible prison penalty (punishment).
