PHM Module 1 Venue: • A village, where the necessary infrastructure is put in place and all the equipment is provided to farmers Timing: • Before the monsoon sets in and all the physical works are completed Trainees: • 25-30 farmer volunteers from a cluster of 4-5 habitations Trainers: Four professional staff, concerned VCs and DA

PHM Module 1 Content: • Hydrological cycle • Factors governing groundwater behavior in space and time • Aquifer types and characters • Causes for depletion of groundwater resource • Causes for environmental pollution • PHM: Concept and content • PHM equipment/material: working principles • Demonstration of measuring SWL, PWL, Discharge and Rainfall • Farmer practice sessions

  5. PHM Module 1 Training material: • Banners with pictures • Charts with pictures • Models • Black/white board • Mike set • Over Head Projector or LCD Projector • PHM equipment/material • Live demonstration sites

PHM Module 1 Session Plan: • Pre-lunch session I: Sharing of scientific information on hydrology, geology, hydrogeology and geo-chemistry • Pre-lunch session II: Introducing the concept and content of PHM • Pre-lunch session III: Sharing the working principles of PHM equipment/material • Post-lunch session I: Demonstration on measuring of rainfall, SWL, PWL and Discharge • Post-lunch session II: Facilitating farmer practice of measurement • Post-lunch session III: Evaluation • Pre-lunch session are in lecture mode, wherein the facilitators share scientific information with the help of training materials and visual aids • In post-lunch session, the participants are divided to three groups and located at three different sites viz., RG station, Observation well for measuring SWL/PWL and Observation well for measuring Discharge

PHM Module 2 Venue: • A village, where the data collection is regular Timing: • After farmer volunteers have collected PHM data for at least three months and data display boards are erected Trainees: • 25-30 farmer volunteers from a cluster of 4-5 habitations Trainers: • Four professional staff, concerned VCs and DA

PHM Module 2 Content: • Hydrological Monitoring Record • Entering secondary data in HMR • Entering Rainfall data in HMR • Entering SWL data in HMR • Entering PWL data in HMR • Entering Discharge data in HMR • Updating on display boards • Updating Rainfall type display board • Updating Water level type display board • Updating HU type display board

PHM Module 2 Session Plan: • Pre-lunch session I: Entering secondary data in HMR • Pre-lunch session II: Entering Rainfall data in HMR • Pre-lunch session III: Entering SWL/PWL data in HMR • Post-lunch session I: Updating Rainfall type display board • Post-lunch session II: Updating Water level type display board • Post-lunch session III: Updating HU type display board • All the sessions follow demonstration and practice method

PHM Module 3 Venue: • A habitation where GMC is active, surrounded by 3-4 other GMC habitations Timing: • After formation of Habitation level GMCs, in a cluster of habitations Trainees: • 25-30 numbers (all the members of 3-4 habitation level GMCs) Trainers: • External resource persons, four professional staff, concerned VCs and DA

PHM Module 3 Content: • Conduct of a meeting • Book keeping • record of meetings • income & expenditure statements • Hydrological Monitoring Record • Filing of all primary and secondary resource information • Operation and maintenance of PHM assets • Legislation pertaining to groundwater and institutions involved in groundwater management • Water sharing agreements models

  13. PHM Module 3 Training material: • Minutes book • Accounts bood • Hydrological Monitoring Record • Different types of display boards • Marker pens/paints • Mike set • Stationary material • Mechanic tool kit • Copies of laws, acts, success stories, etc.

PHM Module 3 Session Plan: • Pre-lunch session I: Conduct of a meeting • Pre-lunch session II: Book keeping: general • Pre-lunch session III: Book keeping: technical • Post-lunch session I: Updating display boards • Post-lunch session II: Operation and Maintenance of PHM assets • Post-lunch session III: Existing water legislation and practice • All the pre-lunch sessions and post-lunch sessions I and II follow demonstration and practice method • Post-lunch session III is in the discussion mode

PHM Module 4 Venue: • A central place of a Hydrological Unit Timing: • After formation of HU level GMC and successful completion of CWB process Trainees: • 25-30 numbers, including all the members of HU level GMC and some active members of Habitation level GMC, who can handle computer Trainers: • Subject Experts, four professional staff, concerned VCs and DA

PHM Module 4 Content: • Rabi resource inventory • Collection of farmer level crop-plans for rabi • Entry of farmer data in CWB package • Balance sheet (at the end of hydrological year) • Budget estimation (for the next hydrological year) • Projected in-flow (during the hydrological year) • Projected balance sheet for next hydrological year • Final budget for next hydrological year • Facilitating crop changes with individual farmers • Conducting Rabi Crop adoption survey

  17. PHM Module 4 Training material: • Computer • CWB package (in Telugu) • Farmer hydrological data • Rabi resource inventory data • Crop plan data • LCD Projector • Stationary material • Mechanic tool kit • Copies of laws, acts, success stories, etc.

PHM Module 4 Session Plan: • Pre-lunch session I: Rabi resource inventory • Pre-lunch session II: Collection of farmer level crop-plans for rabi • Pre-lunch session III: Entry of farmer data in CWB package • Post-lunch session I: Understanding CWB package • Post-lunch session II: Presentation of CWB results in a workshop • Post-lunch session III: Rabi Crop adoption survey • Post-lunch session IV: Influencing farmer crop choices • All the sessions and post-lunch sessions I and II follow demonstration and practice method
