Dwarfism Cause: • decreased GH secretion during childhood Result: • limited height (4 feet tall) • normal proportions
Gigantism Cause: • increased GH secretion during childhood Symptom: • height much taller than average Treatment: • surgery if hypersecretion due to tumor growth on pituitary
Acromegaly Cause: • increased GH secretion as an adult Symptom: • bone lengthening has stopped • bone width increases Treatment: • surgery if hypersecretion due to tumor growth on pituitary
