Learning activities • Enjoyment of Reading: Read 15-30 minutes per night from a novel of student choice • Vocabulary: Acquire 12 new words per week and begin using them in speaking and writing • Critical Reading: Answer literature response questions modeled after standardized tests • Composition: Compose formal, written, academic discussions based on current research • Discussion: Report findings during class discussions and formal presentations

  8. Online grade book Grades are updated weekly in Synergy. A link to Synergy is provided on the teacher webpage or via the Higley High School homepage (under Programs/Services tab). Note: Please disregard grade book dates. All “due” dates have been set to 12/20/13. Actual assignment due dates will be provided in class.

  9. Grading scale A = Exceeds Expectations: Student progresses very quickly and/or consistently demonstrates abilities above grade level. B = Meets Expectations: Student progresses just as expected and consistently exhibits an ability to meet standards. C = Approaches Expectations: Student progresses at a slightly slower pace than needed and/or consistently exhibits some difficulties. F = Falls Below Expectations: Student progress is sporadic or too slow to keep up with the pace of the course work.

  10. Why no d’s? If a student isn’t working at or approaching grade-level expectations, s/he is likely unprepared to move on to higher content levels. Therefore, students working below expectations will not be permitted to “pass,” and will be invited to work one-on-one with the teacher (in class and/or during Academic Support Period) until s/he is approaching or meeting the standard.
