  1. FIRE ROBOT Vasek Brabec Julio Cordón Muñoz

  2. CHALLENGES • NAVIGATION:how it will be the motion of the robot on the ceiling avoiding lamps, walls, projector, etc. The robot must be able to navigate without any human assistance. • SENSING: the robot needs some way to determine the position of the fire, the walls, etc. • FIRE FIGHTING-ARM: the fire must be extinguished. The ceilbot must have a tool for extinguishing the flame. • REMOTE CONTROL: It also must be able to be controlled by human. • TAKING PICTURES • SOUND SIGNAL-STOP BUTTON • SENDING INFORMATION TO FIRE STATION

  3. NAVIGATION AND MOVING • VACUUM: • Charging-parking • Advantages: • Total navigation • Valid for many kinds of ceilings • Disadvantages: • A lot of energy is required in the navigation (motion + weight) • Failure of energy makes the robot fall down • Noise • Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXm6kKCNJ5g • Decision: too much energy + dangerous NO

  4. NAVIGATION AND MOVING • PERMANENT MAGNET: • Advantages: • Total navigation • Disadvantages: • Failure of energy makes the robot fall down • Energy required: motion + weight • Special ceiling • Fire heating the ceiling heating the robot • Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVs_a-PKjws • Decision: special ceiling + dangerous NO

  5. NAVIGATION AND MOVING • RAIL: • Advantages: • Energy only for motion (not weight) • Disadvantages: • Limited navigation • Necessary to add rails • Decision: add rail + limited navigation NO

  6. NAVIGATION AND MOVING • WIRES: • Advantages: • Total navigation • Energy only for motion (not weight) • Disadvantages: • Special structure • Decision: total navigation + not too much energy + not build a new ceiling YES

  7. ARM • Moving up-down and turning • Smoke and heat sensor • Gradient algorithm for estimating the source of the flame

  8. DEVICES • Sensors • Smoke sensors in room • On arm • heat sensor • smoke sensor • infrared sensor • Camera • Beep device • Communication device: mobile – sending MMS

  9. COMMUNICATION AND USER INTERFACE • Loading map of the room • Sound signal-Stop button • Mobile device(GSM) • Message for fire brigade • Adress, a picture of the room • Remote-control device • Bluetooth • Special access code for each robot • Moving and pictures

  10. POSSIBLE DIFFERENT TASKS • Pouring insecticide or pesticide in flowerpots • Feeding pets • Security: adding motion sensor • Someone in room  alarm and pictures

  11. OTHER ROBOTS DOING OUR TASK • Showers Advantages: in all the room Disadvantages: maybe it is not necessary in all the room, water sometimes distroys important documents. • Any robot with an arm qualified to grab an object could use a bottle of fire extinguisher.

  12. A lot of “floor” robots can extinguish a little flame: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF_AwmHTNe8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZbLfyFo9NM&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1KZEgFWu8o&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W_Vlq9AFqg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kFpG_xfymg&feature=related Disadvantages: these robots only can be used in flames at floor level
