  6. Findings: Food, livelihoods, agriculture • Access to food compromised • transportation difficulties to markets • lack of daily wage opportunities purchasing power • Negative coping strategies are being deployed • Increased debt • Reduced food intake • Food demand more than food availability • Agriculture damage/losses • Standing crop losses • fish farm damage • Damaged Aman inability to plant 2013/2014 boro rice crop properly • Animals without shelter, affected by disease

  7. Key vulnerabilities: Food Security • Elderly, child headed HH, PLW, those already relying on food aid (VGF) • 35-45% of population of Satkhira is IPC phase 3 • 11.9% GAM in Satkhira • 30% poor- borderline FCS • Children already chronically stunted (approx. 30%) • Sept- Oct is lean period; HHs already using negative coping strategies prior to waterlogging • Marooned HHs

  8. Key considerations: Livelihoods • Other cash crops are planted during Jan and Feb  production prospects depend on water receding quickly in time for planting season

  9. Key knowledge/information gaps(what we felt we needed to understand more in relation to food security and livelihoods) • Market access • Market functioning/stocks • Available cooking space, fuel • Availability , cost of animal fodder and agricultural inputs • Time for water to recede

  10. Over-arching gaps • No clear quantitative picture of numbers “affected” or displaced • No clear geographic picture of areas affected • No clarity on next steps • Timeliness
