Policy objectives of the national ICT policy: i) Build a knowledge based human capital ii) Promote innovation in economic and social systems iii) Expand ICT infrastructure and its integration throughout the country iv) Deepen utilization of ICT services by government, private sector, Non-Government Organizations and citizenry v) Enhance research and innovation in ICT products, applications, and services vi) Improve ICT governance and environment in Uganda. UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable Point 3: “The world’s cities occupy just 2% of the Earth’s land, but account for 60 – 80% of energy consumption and 75% of carbon emissions. Rapid urbanization is exerting pressure on fresh water supplies, sewage, the living environment, and public health. Google Grant (For ICT Impact Challenge) In April 2019 College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) of Makerere University won a grant of USD 1.3 million from Google to run a project known as AirQo and training of AI Experts. The grant will among other things: • Help to scale up their existing air quality monitoring coverage • Enable CoCIS to make use of artificial intelligence (Al) to improve forecasting accuracy, • Help raise awareness of air quality issues and, • inform public policymaking in this critical area.   29. 2. Huawei MOU Minister for ICT and National Guidance • Mak and Huawei have signed an MoU to establish an ICT Academy in Uganda . • Huawei has invested USD$30,000 (approx.
