  3. Genghis Khan • Expanded Mongol rule and conquered many territories, including Russia, Korea, and Afghanistan • Allowed for easier, safer travel from coast to coast • After his death, the Mongol Empire became even greater under the leadership of his son, Ogadai

  4. Mongol Peace • Period of stability and law in the Mongol Empire • Allowed for greater trade and communication • Revived trade along the Silk Roads

Kublai Khan • Genghis Khan’s grandson • Known as the Great Khan • Divided empire into 4 khanates • Capital in modern-day Beijing • Conquered China; failed to conquer Japan • First time China is united in 300 years • Set up Mongols to rule China- thought they had no loyalty to the Chinese people • Tolerant of Chinese culture • People resist through literature
