  • A bird is a vertebrate.
  • A human is a vertebrate.
vertebrates are classified by how they control their body temperature

  • Cold blooded vertebrates (fish, amphibians, and reptiles) get heat from outside the body.
  • Warm blooded vertebrates (birds and mammals) use energy from food to keep body temperature constant.
