  2. Capital • The capital of Netherlands is Amsterdam. • Amsterdam is the biggest city in the Netherlands. • The population of Amsterdam is 820,654.

Ancient History • 1-A numerous amount of tribes become the areas first inhabitants • 1609-The Dutch discover Manhattan Island • 1629-Peter Minuit ( Director General of the Dutch Colony) purchased Manhattan Island for $24.00 • 1630--Dutch conquer Brazil • 1661-End of war with Spain: Dutch independence is recognized • Brazil is sold to Portugal

  4. Current History • 1975-Amsterdam’s 700th anniversary • 1980-Queen Julian's retires, succeeded by daughter Beatrix • 2001-The first same sex marriage takes place in Amsterdam • 2004-Queen Julian's dies at age 94 • 2010-Netherlands withdraw soldiers from Afghanistan
