Project – Greek Mask • Students will be able to- Learn about and Choose a Greek God, Goddess, Hero, or Monster for inspiration in creating a plaster mask • Students will be able to- Design a Greek mask using symbols related to your Greek choice • Students will be able to- Create a Greek Mask • Students will be able to- Reflect on their project by writing a paper that explains the process of mask-making and their design choices. NYS Visual Art STANDARDS- 1,2, and 3. Common Core - WHST 6-8.1

  3. ZEUS • King of the Gods • God of lightning, sky, and thunder • Symbols-Thunderbolt, Eagle, and Bull • Lives- Mount Olympus • Wife- Hera

  4. Hera • Queen of the Gods • Goddess of Marriage, Women, and Birth • Symbols- Peacock Feather • Lives- Mount Olympus • Husband- Zeus

  5. Poseidon • God of the Sea • Symbols- Trident, Fish, and Dolphin • Lives- The Sea • Brother- Zeus and Hades

  6. Hades • God of the Underworld • Symbols- Key, Horn, and Scepter • Lives- Underworld • Brother- Zeus and Poseidon

  18. Hydra • Monster- Serpent Beast • Has many heads. When one is cut off multiple heads grow in its place.

  19. Minotaur • Monster- Man/Bull • Creature that guards a labyrinth

  21. What’s Next? • Choose a Greek Character and begin the design for your mask. • You must include symbols so your audience knows who the mask is inspired by.
