Repentance • Literally, “to turn the mind” (change the heart) • Biblical definition in a syllogism 2 Cor. 7:10-11 Major premise: Godly sorrow producesrepentance Minor premise: Godly sorrow produced diligence, clearing of yourselves, indignation, fear, vehement desire, zeal, vindication. In all you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. Necessary conclusion: Repentanceisdiligence, clearing of yourselves, indignation, fear, vehement desire, zeal, vindication

Repentance • It is contrasted with regret Matthew 27:1-5 • It is distinguished from a change of conduct Matthew 3:8, Acts 26:20 • It is an attitude obvious to everyone that you have changed you feel about sin • You will do whatever it takes to demonstrate this attitude to others • You will not want others to doubt whether you have changed or not

Repentance • Is produced by godly sorrow 2 Cor. 7:10 • Preceded by humility Romans 2:4, Isaiah 6:1-5 • Accompanied by a willingness to submit to God’s will Isaiah 6:8-9 • Strong desire to be right and do right 2 Cor. 7:11 • Matthew 5:3-6 • Necessary for salvation Acts 2:38 • to enter the kingdom Luke 13:3, Matt. 18:3 • Make a decision to obey God Acts 2:38-41
