  4. Hazard Analysis Hazard analysis is the basis for mitigation efforts and the content of the Emergency Operations Plan Identify Hazards Hazard analysis involves researching the hazards that threaten the community and ranking them according to the risks they pose and the areas and infrastructure that are vulnerable to damage from an event involving the hazards. The outcome is a written hazard analysis that quantifies the overall risk to the community from each hazard. • List of Hazards Profile Hazards • Magnitude • Frequency • Geographic extent • Duration • Seasonal patterns • Speed of onset Develop Community Profile • Quantify Risk • Set Response Priorities • Assign Severity Index • Prioritize Risks Determine Vulnerability • Geography • Property • Infrastructure • Demographics • Response Organizations Apply Scenarios • Initial warning • Potential total impact • Sector specific impacts • Overall consequences • Response actions and resources • needed ATU Emergency Preparedness Program

  5. Summary of Hazard Profile Inputs • You have a copy of each Hazard Profile along with summarizations of • All inputs • Grouped by basic hazard/hazard category ATU Emergency Preparedness Program

  6. The Nature of Risk Risk = (Probability of Occurrence) X (Potential Severity) High Little concern Moderate Concern Major Concern Immediate and Severe Concern Medium Probability of Occurrence Low Low Medium High Severity of Consequences ATU Emergency Preparedness Program

  7. Unit Emergency Response Plans • ATU Emergency Response Procedures • Ross Pender graft Library Emergency Action Plan (on Task Force website) • ATU Museum Emergency Response and Disaster Management Plan • George Mason University Unit Emergency Plan Guide (on Task Force website) ATU Emergency Preparedness Program

  8. Next steps • Our hazard analysis is a ‘living process” • We rely on Task Force Guidance to make sure the planning process is based on accurate and comprehensive information • Task Force Members should review the hazard profiles and feedback comments/ suggestions/additions to the EAM Support Team (ed.leachman@mail.atu.edu) Target - April 22 • EAM Support Team will meet with Task Force Members over the next 30 days to develop the list of response resources for each hazard • EAM Support Team will collect and apply community profiles to the hazard profiles and create a “strawman” risk prioritization. These will be distributed to the Task Force for review and comments and baselining at our next meeting ATU Emergency Preparedness Program
