  2. Mayan Sacrifices • It was an honor to be sacrificed if you were a Mayan. • It was a part of their religion.

  3. Mayan Sacrifice • The human sacrifices were not very common. • They would sacrifice animals or their prisoners. • They also believed blood sacrifice kept the system in balance.

  4. Warfare • The people that died were victims. • Blood went to the gods. • Sacrifice also had to do will ballgames.

  5. Other Sacrificed things • Other things were sacrificed. • Jaguars, parrots, owls, turtles, and many more

  6. Why did they do it? • They believed the gods wanted blood. • They thought they had a duty to the gods

  7. Items they used • Obsidian knives • Stingray spines • Knotted cords

  8. What did they use the tools for? • Used knotted cords to draw blood from their bodies. • Obsidian, and Stingray spines were used to extract blood.

  9. Sacrifice • Most common way of sacrifice:“ah nacom”. • Is extract the heart quickly. • Chac: the person that did the procedure

  10. Procedure to extract the heart • Used “ah nacom” • 4 people helped Chac • Chac held the Humans limbs
