INTRODUCTION Instructional practice is the most significant aspect of professional development for teachers Teachers were concern about in professional development program that could be linked and applied directly Teachers attain more subject knowledge and can improve their teaching skills by attending relevant professional development program (Garret, et al., 2001)

  3. INTRODUCTION The National Research Council provided Framework for Effective Learning Environment Design for Teachers (Bransford, Brown and Cocking, 2000) Community-centered Knowledge-centered Framework for Effective Learning Environment Learner-centered Assessment-centered

WetchesterInstitute for Human Services Research (2008) suggests that high quality of teacher development education includes several characteristics INTRODUCTION Data driven on student outcomes Identified teachers needs Strong foundation in subject content and methods of teaching Used resources from teaching and learning research Research is continuous and ongoing process Provide follow up support Possess appropriate evaluation basis

Ministry of Education Malaysia has provided series of in-service professional development program for Mathematics and Science when teacher are required to teach the subjects in English since 2003 Background to the Study The aim of National Education Philosophy increased the need to improve teacher professionalism by providing sufficient learning environment

  6. Background to the Study The table below shows in-service professional development for a primary school in Kuala Selangor in 2010

  7. Background to the Study Based on the session presented in the in-service training, it shows that there are only two session which related to instructional practice Techniques and Rules in Netball Games Techniques and Rules in SepakTakraw Games

  9. Background to the Study Based on the session presented in the in service training, at least half of the programs were relevant to instructional practice UPSR Marking Scheme Workshop Computer-based in Teaching and Learning Coaching in Co-curricular Remedial and Student Learning Difficulties

Teachers are not involve in the planning process of professional development and leader was not conducting need assessment study Statement of the Problem Malaysian applied very top-down approach in managing educational changes – curriculum need to be implemented according to the curriculum specification (Dhamotharan,2002) Short term notice and training usually given by the ministry which shows that top-down appraoch was applied

  13. Hypothesis for Research Question 1: H0: There is no relationship between teachers’ professional development and changes in teaching instruction H1: There is a relationship between teacher’s professional development and changes in teaching instruction Research Hypotheses

Research Design – survey research method Respondents will be given the questionnaire to be completed in a particular time RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Population and Sample – teachers who teach Year 6 in the selected primary school in Kuala Selangor Instrumentation – adopted and adapted from Missouri Professional Guideline for Student Succes (Guskey & Roy, n.d.)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Data Collection – Questionnaire distributed to the respondents through the headmaster of each school Researcher will explain purpose of study, time given to answer questionnaire and how respondents should return completed questionnaire in a letter Researcher will do a series of follow-up calls to the headmaster to know the respondents progress

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Data Analysis – using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 17.0 Researcher will carry out descriptive analysis using correlation coefficient and scatterplots to understand the degree of relationship between two variables Researcher choose Pearson correlation to describe the analyze the data for independent and dependent variables
