METHODOLOGY(CAUSAL – COMPARATIVE) Investigators attempt to determine the cause or consequences of differences that already exist between or among groups of individuals. • A researcher might observe, for example, that two group or more of individuals differ on some variable ( such as teaching style) and then attempt to determine the reason for, or the results of, this difference.

Strengthening Causal Comparative • Strong inference (theory). • Time sequence (presumed cause precedes presumed effect). • Incorporate other, possible, causes in the design (measure common antecedents) . • Use designs that control for extraneous causes: • matched group design • Extreme groups design • Statistical control (Analysis of Covariance)
