Special Area Management Plans • Used to develop strategies to protect and manage resources where conflicts occur • Requested by local, state or federal entities • Local involvement is key • Initiated and approved by DHEC Board • Cost sharing • Allows focus on specific issues in particular areas

  5. Filbin Creek wetland project • Creek placed on 303 list for impaired water bodies • Working with City of North Charleston • EPA wetland grant • OCRM enforcement money as match • To be completed in 2007

  6. Severe Storms • Establish communications with local govt. • Assessments begin within 24 hours • DBR threshold – digital photos, GPS
