GDYBL Mission • Fun and competitive environment for children & community • Teach basic skills of basketball through the values of teamwork, respect and having fun • Build self-esteem through positive reinforcement of skills and a positive team atmosphere • Lessons of basketball serve as a backdrop to education through sports • Teach lifelong values of teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, commitment and having fun while playing a team sport • Provide outlets through our Rec and Travel programs for different objectives of the families we serve

GDYBL CORI/SORI Overview • Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Record Information (SORI) checking is required for all volunteer organizations serving youth under age 18 by Massachusetts state law. • The law recognizes the conflict between an individual’s right to privacy and the need to protect children. • Every GDYBL adult volunteer, regardless of role, will be asked to authorize their criminal record to be sent to the GDYBL CORI Administrator (Dave Eisenklam).

GDYBL CORI Overview • The GDYBL Board of Directors has established a list of disqualifying offenses which would indicate that a person is not suitable to serve as a volunteer in the league. • The CORI data will be seen only by the CORI Administrator who will be committed to total secrecy, under threat of severe legal penalty. • Those having a disqualifying offense on their record who have not already stepped aside will be discretely asked to resign from any role in the league.

  10. Codes of Conduct • All coaches are required to read, sign, and abide by the Coaches Code of Conduct. • All parents and players are required to read, sign, and abide by the Player / Parent Code of Conduct. Coaches are to collect these from their players before the 1st game.

Coaches Code of Conduct(Key Points) In addition to the above, the following specific behaviors are unacceptable and any disciplinary action will be in the hands of the GDYBL Board of Directors: 1) Vehemently arguing with or berating officials, opposing coaches, parents, or players. 2) Open criticism of officials, opposing coaches, parents or players. 3) Using offensive or profane language or throwing balls, clipboards, or anything else. 4) Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while at any GDYBL practice, game or athletic event. I have read, and acknowledge agreement to, this Code of Conduct of the GDYBL Board of Directors. GDYBL SchedulingRules • Scheduling… • Notify Scheduler (tpm2711@verizon.net) of Non-Practices, 72hrs in advance: coach -> coord -> scheduler • Keep Games on Track – make up lost time • No School due to Snow -> no practice • Requests for Make-ups: coach -> coord -> scheduler • No Trading Practices or Games – always play as scheduled

GDYBLGym Rules Gym… • Bring sneakers to change into – preserve floors • Keep non-player traffic off the courts – they were just resurfaced • No bouncing balls in the hallways – preserve custodians • No food or drink in the gyms – WATER ONLY • Observe parking signs and regulations – watch your speed • Remember - we are guests • Children under 12 must be supervised

  14. GDYBLGym Rules WELCOME TO GROTON SCHOOL AND… THANK YOU FOR RESPECTING OUR FACILITIES. These rules and policies pertain to the athletic center facility, as well as Groton School grounds. *Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult, parent, or coach. *Groton is a tobacco-free campus. *No food or drinks permitted in team boxes, scorers box, or on the courts. *No horseplay. *Liaison, Team Managers, Coaches, and/or Team Representatives are responsible for the conduct and behavior of the teams on and off the court, as well as the parents, relatives, and spectators. *All trash will be placed in the proper receptacles. *Cars should NOT block gym circle/fire lane. Please use appropriate parking lot. ZERO TOLERANCE: No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs. No fighting or physical or verbal abuse. No vandalism or defacing of Groton School property. No disrespectful behavior or conduct towards a Groton School employee.

  16. GDYBL Web Site • Log onto www.gdybl.org • From the home page, select “Team” from top menu. • Choose correct League and Team from the drop down menus. • Click on the “Team” from the top menu and select “Roster” from the drop down menu.

  17. GDYBL Web Site • Enter your full name and password. • Passwords will be emailed to all coaches and players by Wednesday, November 4th. 6. From the roster page, you have access to addresses, phone numbers and the ability to email the team.

GDYBL Fundraising • Two major fundraisers • Calendar Raffle (Kickoff Dec. 2011) • 3 on 3 Tournament (Mar. 17/18, 2012) • Proceeds go towards: • Help cover the costs of running the league • Financial aid for GDYBL fees – need-based • Scholarships for high school seniors • Supporting basketball infrastructure / programs

GDYBL Objectives • To provide opportunities for the youth of Groton and Dunstable to play basketball for enjoyment and recreation, we strive to: • Develop individual and team basketball knowledge and skills for all participants. • Provide equal opportunity for growth and development of all players, regardless of ability and experience. • Emphasize teamwork and cooperation as key elements of success. •   Demonstrate excellent sportsmanship to all at all times. • Focus on skill development and character development. •   Stress the importance of participation for enjoyment, social interaction, and fun; winning is not everything. • Deliver a quality product to ALL players equally.

  30. Coaching Clinics In Season Support • Clinics will be held during week of October 31 at the Middle School-North gym • Grades 2-4 Clinic – Wed. Nov.2, 6:00-9:00 PM • Focused on coaching in this age group • Grades 5-HS Clinic – Thurs. Nov. 3, 6:00-9:00 PM • Focused on coaching in this age group • The focus is to help and provide resources to increase the knowledge, capability and awareness of our coaches.

  32. GDYBL Rec. Rules Review • Playing Time: • Strive for equal time, unless injury or fouls (see new guidelines) • Man-to-Man and Zone Defense: • Teach and use both. The GDYBL emphasizes m2m • Zone allowed whenever pressing is allowed. • Full Court Press: • Allowed in Boys & Girls Divisions – grades 5/6 & up • Half-court rule otherwise • 10 point rule in effect • 5/6 - final 8 minutes of the game (and OT), 7/8 – 2nd half • HS Division may press for the entire game • Foul Line Exception: • 12 foot free throw line in effect for B/G grades 3 & 4, • Regulation 15 foot line for 5/6, but leeway to use 12’ as needed. • Playoff Seeding: - Random draw at conclusion of regular season
