Context • Health care professionals experience difficulties • In the correct medical registration of clinical work • In the efficient searching for answers to clinical questions • These difficulties arise often from • a deficient interface between human and machine language • Terminological solutions are often naive • Overwhelming or restricting too much the collections of concepts • Not addressing local, cultural differences between vocabularies

  4. Proposal for an interface terminology with two basic resources 1. A conceptual reference interface terminology • Multidisciplinary, multilingual • Restricted to reference concepts • Linked to international nomenclatures, thesauri, classifications and ontologies 2. A series of specific, monolingual end-user lexicons • Bridged to the reference terminology • Connected to rich linguistic corpuses for NLP

  5. Bridging concepts and lemma’s by two methods 1. A bridge between a concept from the Reference Terminology and one sense of a lemma from a Lexicon • Preserves conceptual integrity • Language independent 2. Alignment of the lexical representation of a concept in the reference terminology (in a given language) with the corresponding lemma in a lexicon (of that language) • Language dependent

More context (Linked Data Publishing) • Linked Data as the horizon • Technology stack built on the (Semantic) Web principles to link data on the Web in addition to pages/fragments • Useful for the implementation of: • Conceptual Linking to external formal systems • Bridging LMF/TMF-compliant resources within the Interface Terminology • Connecting to Linguistic Corpuses for NLP • All these relationships are qualified (levels of equivalency, narrower, broader meaning, ...)
