Benefits of the System • Departments: Ability to select, interview and hire students who are interested in working for your department and you see as a good fit. • Students: • Developing and uploading a resume in HuskyJOBS. • Applying for a position through HuskyJOBS. • Preparing for the co-op/intern or full-time position application process.

  3. Where do I start? • http://www.mtu.edu/career/employers/jobs/ • Select On-Campus Employment

  4. HuskyJOBS Login • If you are currently registered, enter your username and password (username is your complete email address including @mtu.edu) and go directly to slide #9.

  5. New User • Select Register and Post Jobs at Michigan Tech.

  6. New User • All fields indicated by a redasterisk* are your required fields. (This same system is used by industry employers, so there are several additional optional fields not applicable to you). • Industry – For more options use the arrow button and scroll down. You can select more than one option by holding down the control key. • Organizational Name – Must always begin with Michigan Tech, followed by your department name. • Services Requested – Select On-campus, Job Posting and Information Sessions.

  7. New User • All fields indicated by a redasterisk* are your required fields. (This same system is used by industry employers, so there are several additional optional fields not applicable to you). • Address – Please Use 1400 Townsend Drive Houghton, Michigan 49931

  8. What happens next? • Career Services will approve your registration request and send you a computer generated password. You may change this password to one of your choosing when you sign on to HuskyJOBS again.

  9. Posting a Job • Select Jobs (in grey area).

  10. Posting a Job • Select Job Postings (non-OCR). • To create a new job posting, select +Add New.

  11. Posting a Job • All fields indicated by a redasterisk* are your required fields. (This same system is used by industry employers, so there are several additional optional fields that are not applicable to you). • Copy Existing – If you have previously posted a position, you may copy that position (use drop down menu to find it). If not, and this is a new posting, you’ll need to fill in the required fields. • Co-op Job? – Most will be no, although we do have a few on-campus co-op positions. • Position Type - ALWAYS choose On-Campus. In addition, you may also select Part-Timeif you wish, but it is not required. • Restrict Applications – If you are looking for a specific type of student (major, class level, GPA) then click Yes. You MUST click Yes if you want to conduct interviews. If your position is open to all students and you wish to hire from resume reviews only, click No. • Title – Provide the position title. • Job Description – Add the job description details here. (i.e. duties, responsibilities, qualification requirements). • Number of Openings – Type in the number of openings for the specific job posting.

Posting a Job • Directions continued… • Job Function – Select general description (use scroll bar to view options and choose one). • Resume Receipt - Select how you would like to receive student resumes: • E-mail – The resume will be sent to your department contact as each student applies. • Accumulate Online – The system will hold the resumes. You must check in to see who has applied to your position. • Other – If you would like to direct the candidate to apply to a different website. • Additional Documents – Select applicable boxes. • Posting Date – Choose the Select button for drop down calendar and select date you’d like your posting to appear. • Expiration Date – Choose the Select button for drop down calendar and select date you’d like your posting to be removed. • Graduation Date Start and End – N/A (used for companies hiring full-time graduates/alumni). • GPA – Type in a minimum GPA if you have set a requirement. • Work Authorization – N/A (all students at Michigan Tech are equally authorized to work on campus).

  13. Posting a Job • Directions continued… • Desired Majors – Click Select for drop down menu. If you’re restricting a posting to a specific major, then choose those that you desire to apply to your position. Choose All Majors if you have no restrictions. • Class Level – Hold control key down to select more than one if your posting is open to all students. • Degree Level - Hold control key down to select more than one if your posting is open to all students. • Requisition # - N/A • Desired Start Date – Click Select button for drop down calendar and choose the date your job commences. • Duration – If your job is seasonal or per semester or year, you are able to note that here. • Approximate Hours Per Week – Type in estimated number of hours per week (i.e. 8-10). • Travel Percentage - N/A • Qualifications – N/A • Salary Level – If you wish to advertise the salary, type in your per hour rate.

Posting a Job • Directions continued… • Location • Nation Wide – please select No. • City – type in Houghton. • State/Province – use the drop down menu to select Michigan. • Country – use the drop down menu to select United States. • Attachment(s) – If you desire, you can add documents (such as a separate department application). Select +Add Item to attach the document from your own computer files.

  15. Posting a Job • Directions continued… • Attachment(s) – Type in the title of your attachment (i.e. Department Name Application). • Select the Browse button to locate your attachment file. Double click to bring the file to this field. • If you would like to add more than one attachment, you may do so by selecting the +Add Item as many times as you require. • Select the Submit button to finish posting your job. • If you wish to suspend your work on this form and continue at a later time, select Save and Finish Later.

  16. Did I successfully post my job? • When you select Submit, your posting goes to the Career Services office to be approved. When it is approved, a green check mark will appear in the Approved box.

Student View • What does my job posting look like to students? • The job posting shows the following, including your posting details: • Company Name • Date posted • Work authorization (if selected) • Approximate hours per week • Position type • Desired start date • Description • Location • Job function • Want this Job – shows if the student has already applied. • Posted On - shows the date the position was posted in the system. • Applications Accepted Until – shows the end date you’ve specified or for a full semester if you didn’t make a definitive choice. • Screening Criteria – if a student does not qualify for a position, the reason is displayed in this area.

  18. Collect/Review Applicant Resumes • Select Jobs(top grey bar). • Select Student Resumes (non-OCR).

Collect/Review Applicant Resumes • There are several options available: • View resumes online (see below) • Bundle resumes in PDF format (see below) • Rank the students in the order you’d like to review (see below) • Download selected applicants into MS Excel Format (see below) • Mass email applicants (go to slide 29 for instructions) E D B C A

Mass Email Applicants • The mass email tool allows you to communicate with all your applicants. • Check the box next to the name of the student or students you wish to email (IMPORTANT: remember to uncheck boxes from previously set mass emails, as there is no default action that automatically does this). • Select Mail to Checked.

Mass Email Applicants • Complete the required fields: • Subject: Include work-study and your department’s name. • From: This is pre-populated with your email address. • cc: Leave this field blank. Otherwise, if you are emailing 10 students, the email address you enter here will receive 10 copies of the email message. • bcc: Leave this field blank. Same criteria as the cc field. • Send Copy To: If you would like to receive a copy of the email message, you can enter your email here (multiple email addresses can be entered by separating with commas). • HTML Format: (optional) Allows you to customize your message (change fonts, add links, change colors, etc.). • Message Body: Must be completed (if you used the HTML Format field, you must copy the same text here, in case a browser does not support the HTML format). • Now…Select Continueto preview your message. At this point, the email has NOT been sent. Go to next page for more instructions…

  22. Mass Email Applicants • Ensure the number of Verified Recipients equals what you selected previously in Step 1 as indicated below. (Some students may have altered their privacy settings and opted out of receiving messages. If this is the case, notify career@mtu.edu, and we will inform the student of their setting choice). • Select Send Messages to continue with the final send. • Do NOT close your browser until you receive a Donemessage. This indicates you’ve successfully sent your mass email. • Select Done to return to the screen shown above and deselect the students you have checked so your cache is clear for your next mass email.

  23. Filling Your Position • Send a job offer to your selected candidate. • Sample Template • Dear [Insert Student Name], • [Insert Department Name] is pleased to offer you the [Insert Position Name] position. Please confirm • acceptance of this offer through email [Insert email address] by [Insert Date]. • Further details regarding your on-campus student position will be provided upon your acceptance of our • employment offer. We at [Insert Department Name] hope that you’ll accept this offer and look forward to welcoming you aboard. • Should you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. • Sincerely, • [Insert Your Name] • [Insert Department Name]

  24. Filling Your Position • Notify the remaining applicants that the position has been filled. • Sample Template • Dear [Insert Student Name], • Thank you for your interest in the [Insert Position Name] with [Insert Department Name]. Although the selection process was a difficult one, we have chosen another applicant whose • credentials more closely match our needs.
