Welcome to SAMS Bands!!

Welcome to the SAMS Bands community! I'm Susan Butler, your Band Director. To ensure success, all students must have their instruments by September 2nd and are encouraged to shop around at local music stores, as rental and purchase prices may vary. Essentials include reeds, cleaning tools, and the Standard of Excellence Book 1. We have three concerts planned this year, with details on the schedule and expectations to be sent home soon. Students will have secure storage for their instruments. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

  1. Welcome to SAMS Bands!! Susan Butler Band Director

  2. Do you have an instrument? Music stores in the area: • Evans, Monroe’s, Moore Music, Music & Arts, and Music Barn • Shop around (rental and purchase prices do vary from store to store!) • All students must have instruments by September 2nd . (Hopefully sooner!!)

  3. What else is needed? • Clarinets: Reeds (size 2 ½), swab and cork grease • Flutes: Cleaning rod (should have come with new instrument) • Trumpets: Small rag in case for cleaning, slide grease, and valve oil. • Trombones: Small rag, slide oil and slide grease

  4. Continued… • Small notebook to keep band music and notes taken in class. • Standard of Excellence Book 1 (Red Book) • Pencil (no pens in band )

  5. Schedule • We will have three concerts this year for 6th grade band. • Schedule and Band Expectations will be sent home this week. • Uniform for concerts: (First Concert will be Mid-October) • Black dress shoes, dress pants or skirts. • White blouse for girls and white collared shirt for boys.

  6. Storage Students will have their own storage cubby in band storage room. This room is kept secured in the day time Cubbies should only be used for the band instrument and notebook.
