  2. What is bullying? Bullying is aggressive behavior that is intentional and that involves an imbalance of power. Most often, it is repeated over time. Bullying can take many forms: physical bullying (hitting or punching), verbal bullying (name-calling, teasing), social or emotional bullying (exclusion, hurtful gestures), or cyber-bullying (negative messages via e-mail or text messaging). Why LGBT Bullying? • Over 8 out 10 LGBT teens have been bullied in the past year (31.7% all students NCES) • 6 in 10 LGBT students reported feeling unsafe because of their sexual orientation • 80% of transgender students reported feeling unsafe at school because of their gender expression • 60.4% never reported an incident of harassment or assault • Gay students 5 times more likely to commit suicide (Pediatrics 2011) • GLSEN National School Climate Survey 2011
