2. Life on the plantation for slaves was brutal because when slaves tried to escape they will get severally whipped. • They would generally travel between 10 and 20 miles to the next station, where they would rest and eat, hiding in barns and other hide away places.

3. Southern blacks continued to live under the shadows of slavery, unable to travel assemble as freely as those in the North. • It was more difficult for them to sustain churches, schools.

4. Enslaved blacks and their white sympathizers planned secret flight strategies and escaped routes for runaways to make their way to freedom. • Most Slaves were given tasks to perform according to their physical capability.

5. A work day on the plantation of 15-16 hours a day, during harvest time and, could go on during harvest and milling for 16-18 per week 7days a week. • Children between ages six and ten might be active as water carriers. Children between ages ten and twelve were put to weeding.

6. Punishment was an inherent part of the slave system. Not only was physical punishment brutal but the mental and sexual abuse were also an inherent part of slavery. • Treatments were given such as mutilation, branding, chaining, and murder which were supposedly regulated or prohibited by law.
