  1. July 20, 2018 DEEP LEARNING TOP 5 Insights into the new computing model

  2. DEEP LEARNING IS THE FASTEST-GROWING FIELD IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

  3. AS AI TECHNOLOGIES CONTINUE TO IMPROVE, MORE COMPANIES ADOPT DEEP LEARNING TO ACCELERATE THEIR BUSINESSES…

  4. TOP 5 DEEP LEARNING STORIES 1. First driverless car completes iconic HillClimb 2. Fixing bad photos with AI 3. Evaluating credit for millennials 4. Detecting prostate cancer with AI 5. Bringing robo-taxis to Silicon Valley

  5. 1 FIRST DRIVERLESS CAR COMPLETES ICONIC HILLCLIMB Powered by AI, Roborace Robocar has become the first self-driving vehicle to complete the Goodwill Hillclimb: a 1.16-mile uphill and twisty course. This historic achievement is a significant milestone in establishing a new racing platform without human drivers. “The car not only completed the course without human intervention but apparently sailed through the uphill climb with a maximum speed of 75 mph.” READ ARTICLE Source: https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3036177/nvidia-powered-robocar-becomes-first-driverless-car-to-complete-goodwoods-hillclimb

  6. 2 FIXING BAD PHOTOS WITH AI Have you ever taken a photo at the perfect moment but found out it was blurry? Researchers from NVIDIA have created a deep-learning based method to restore images with noisy input. “One of the most exciting things about the system is that it can significantly reduce the amount of time required for image rendering -- we're talking milliseconds.” LEARN MORE Source: https://www.engadget.com/2018/07/10/nvidia-ai-fix-bad-photos-deep-learning/

  7. 3 EVALUATING CREDIT FOR MILLENNIALS Credit scores are a funny thing: you can’t have a credit score unless you have a credit history. Startup Deserve plans to tackle this dilemma with the help of deep learning. “Deserve uses machine learning to evaluate credit card applications to assess applicants’ future earning potential. For students, Deserve’s algorithms looked at variables such as degree programs, GPA, school choices, jobs held during college, and more.” LISTEN TO PODCAST Source: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2018/07/03/ai-podcast-startup-uses-ai-to-give-millennials-the-credit-they-deserve/

  8. 4 DETECTING PROSTATE CANCER WITH AI Prostate cancer is one of the hardest cancers to detect: small lesions can comprise of less than 1% of the tissue surface. To solve this problem, researchers from Cornell University and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), developed a deep learning-based approach that more accurately detects cancer. “Using seven NVIDIA DGX-1 systems, each containing eight Tesla V100 GPUs, and the cuDNN-accelerated PyTorch deep learning framework, the team trained their neural networks on the new dataset to detect prostate cancer. Their best model achieved an AUC of 0.98 and a false negative rate of 4.8% on a test set consisting of 1,824 slides.” READ MORE Source: https://news.developer.nvidia.com/ai-helps-detect-prostate-cancer/

  9. 5 BRINGING ROBO-TAXIS TO SILICON VALLEY NVIDIA has announced a partnership with Daimler and Bosch to produce autonomous vehicles at scale. NVIDIA’s Drive PX platform will process the test vehicles’ self-driving algorithms using machine-learning. “While Daimler and Bosch aren’t the first out of the gate with public robo-taxi testing, they are taking a different approach by building vehicles dedicated to the purpose and are focusing on safety rather than speed.” READ MORE Source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dougnewcomb/2018/07/14/daimler-bosch-nvidia-team-up-to-bring-robo-taxis-to-silicon-valley/#34af6c196326
