English 7 2/14/14 How to Write a Narrative Poem • Decide what you like watching, such as a type of TV show, movie, book, etc. • Use this as a model for you to follow. • Start writing whatever you’re thinking about it while staring at the paper. • It might sound quite funny but remember, poetry comes from emotion more than your brain. Just write what you feel. • It could be a mountain, it could be clouds, rain, trees, or even your girlfriend.

How to Write a Narrative Poem • Think about the poems we’ve read and how they told a story. • They used a lot of imagery; was either funny, sad, or dramatic; used figurative language to describe things. • Show some emotion. Happiness, sadness, love, or humor are the most powerful. • It would be most powerful if it is about sorrow, good time, losing something, love, also you can try joy, fear, etc. • Make it descriptive. • Mention every tiny feeling going through your mind about the subject. • Make it narrative. (true or not true story) • Narrate the poem to the reader like a story. Use words like "I felt like....", "I wished...", "I hope...", etc. and give every detail about the subject and what’s around him/her.
