  1. SE 195: It’s a Process

  2. First Thoughts… • RESEARCH?! AHHH!! • New thought! • It’s not scary, it’s an opportunity • It’s intimidating! • I need a confidence booster…

  3. Good Old Fashioned Brainstorming • Browse your choices from the catalog on the site • Filter 1: Do you have any restraints? • Transportation  have to find a site local to your residence or maybe on campus • Filter 2: What interests you? • You don’t have to go to a site specific to your discipline • You’re going to dedicate A LOT of time to it both on and off the site

  4. Plan Ahead! And TAKE ACTION!!! Redundant but necessary • It’s never too early • Have your resumes & cover letters ready • The Career Center can help with that • Prep yourself for interviews • Stay organized • TAKE ACTION!

  5. Landing a Site • Keep in close contact with your site supervisor • Plan a schedule in order to ensure you get all your hours • Discuss any goals you have with your supervisor

  6. Remember, it’s still a class • Going to class allows you to share experiences with your peers • Be prepared to hit the ground running • Anticipate problems both on/off the site • Keep in mind: time WILL fly…

  7. Field Study Site: UCI Hospitality & Dining Marketing Here’s a glance at my experience… • I decided to conduct a survey to see which factors (gender, class standing, residence) effect/are effected by their marketing for on campus activities • I was fortunate to have access to their Facebook, Twitter, & Survey Monkey accounts • My hypotheses were not supported due to limitations, but the study still made a difference!

  8. I LOVED IT! Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy your Field Study! =)
