Varun Chakravarthy Hopes To Clear Fitness Tests The mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been one unlucky player, who despite earning maiden India call up a couple of times, wasn’t feature in the final squad due to his fitness issues. Once again, he has been named to the team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, and he would be hoping to be lucky this time as well. It is also noteworthy that, he was earlier selected for the Australia tour last year, and then for the series against England at home earlier this year. While he had missed the Australia series due to injury, the later one was the reason of his fitness issue. However, the Indian team management is trying to give him a feel of the international cricket before the much-awaited T20 World Cup. On the other hand, the cricketer is currently working hard on his fitness to be able to play for India in the island nation. In a recent interview with the Sportstar, he said that he is confident to be lucky for the third time.

  2. “I am confident of clearing the fitness tests. Playing for India in the World Twenty20 is a much-cherished dream for me,” he said to Sportstar in an exclusive chat on Friday. “I consider myself a leg-spinner though the media calls me a mystery spinner. The leg-spin delivery is my stock ball, and I have the googly and the flipper. I am striving to make my top-spinner more potent.” While he has proved his worth while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he was asked how does he handle the pressure situations, he said, “I simply focus on the process. I can control things till the ball leaves my hand. If the process is right, I don’t bother even if I go for runs.” He also recalled the conversation he had with Rahul Dravid at the NCA. “He told me, ‘You have the ability. Don’t take anything for granted. Maintain dedication.” As for the tour of Lanka he says, “I have interacted with Shikhar Dhawan at the NCA. He is a jovial person, and I am looking forward to playing under him.” The Indian team will play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Sri Lanka in July.
