  8. Know What Classes to Register for • Course Numbering • Degree Plan • Transfer Credit • Class Schedule • Tips when choosing classes • Rate My Professor • Have back up classes • Payment (financial aid, credit card…)

  9. Course Numbering • First digit is usually the year you can take it • 1301 freshman • 2401 sophomore • Second digit is the number of credits you will earn and is usually how many hours you will meet each week (during fall and spring) • 1301 earns 3 credits and you meet 3 hours each week* • 2401 earns 4 credits and you meet 4 hours each week* (1 hour is usually for a lab) *Summer classes meet more often &/or for longer period time than fall & spring

  10. Degree Plan This shows all the courses needed to earn a particular degree. Make sure you are registering for college classes that are on your specific Degree Plan. Some degrees require an “application” to get into the program (i.e. nursing). http://www.ctcd.edu/academics/programs-of-study/explore-academic-programs/ Certificate Programs Level 1 or 2 (less than 60 credits) Associate Degrees (60+ credits)

  11. Transfer Credit If you plan to take classes at CTC and then transfer to a 4 year college, make sure you are using the degree plan from the college you are transferring TO. • www.TCCNS.org • Click “Compare Schools” • Select the college you are transferring to • Select the college you will transfer from • Don’t reply strictly on this website; always verify with the college you are transferring to (get it in writing)

  12. Course Catalog vs Class Schedule Course Catalog (general)http://www.ctcd.edu/ctcd/assets/File/Academics/Catalogs/Texas/texas3.pdf Class Schedule (specific for semester)http://www.ctcd.edu/academics/class-schedules/ Session (5, 8, 10, 11 weeks) Course & Section Number Type (LEC, LAB, CLN, OLL, OBL) Bldg & Room Day & Time Instructor How to read Course Listing Page 10 • Course Number • Course Description • Prerequisite (before) • Co-requisite (same time)

  13. Class Scheduling Select the classes you want to take using the Class Schedule found in WebAdvisor under Scheduling & Planning. https://ctcsss.ctcd.org:39208/Student/Courses • Select the course • Select the location (Central Campus) • Select the term (Summer 1 & Summer 2) • View Available Sections Student Planning Registration Guide https://www.ctcd.edu/ctcd/assets/File/Records%20%26%20Registration/Student%20Planning_Registration%20Guide%2008_01_18(1).pdf

  14. Tips when choosing classes • Make sure not to overlap classes • Avoid large gaps between classes • Start with classes that have the fewest sections because they have less options • Avoid 8:00 a.m. class if you are not a morning person, unless it’s the only one available • Register for the amount of credit hours your financial aid requires (full-time) Full-time = 12+ credits in the fall and spring but usually only 6 credits in the summer Note: Because summer session is shorter than the regular fall and spring sessions, you have less time to complete the same amount of work.

  15. RateMyProfessor.com Students rate their college professors on the following: • Overall quality (out of 5) • Hotness • Helpfulness • Clarity • Easiness www.ratemyprofessor.com • Click “Find a Professor” • type “Central Texas College” and select it, • type in the instructor’s last name and select the appropriate one

  16. Have Back Up Classes/Sections • Classes fill up very quickly, especially the ones with the best teachers. • Make sure you are ready to register at midnight when it opens. • If the class you want is closed already, then make sure you have a back up plan. • You do NOT have to stay in the same semester on your degree plan, just make sure you have the necessary prerequisites.

  17. Payment • You are expected to pay the same day you register. If you don’t, your classes will be dropped. • Make sure yourfinancial aid is set up, or have a credit card available • If paying by check or cash….you will need to go to the Business Office to pay by the end of the day you register.
