Malaysian PM calls for "comprehensive energy settlement" in Asia Malaysian Prime Minister NajibRazak on Monday called for a "comprehensive energy settlement" for Asian region which is faced with the incoming major shifts in the oil and gas industry. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Asia Oil and Gas Conference 2013, Najib said global policymakers are facing a daunting task to find safe, secured and sustainable energy sources to meet demand and fuel development.
"We must find a way to bring economic, social and environmental considerations together in a comprehensive way and answer them with a total package, a comprehensive energy settlement which will unlock development and profit, while at the same time, ensuring sustainable long term growth," he said. The two-day conference has attracted some 1,200 participants comprising policymakers and top oil companies executives in the region. Meanwhile, Najib pointed out the extraction of unconventional energy reserves such as shale gas and the clean energy as the two major changes facing the oil and gas industry, calling on Asian countries to tap into the changes to build a knowledge-based economy, in order to ensure greater growth, development and stability.
