Parts of Speech. Nouns. A noun is a person, place, thing or idea. Nouns are the subject of the sentence. Examples: Matt is a pro-golfer. The bakery has fresh baked cookies. Children were playing outside. Types of Nouns. Proper A noun that names a specific person, place or thing.

  2. Nouns A noun is a person, place, thing or idea. Nouns are the subject of the sentence. Examples: Matt is a pro-golfer. The bakery has fresh baked cookies. Children were playing outside.

  3. Types of Nouns • Proper A noun that names a specific person, place or thing. • She walked across the Purple People Bridge. • Common A noun that does not name a specific person place or thing • Christopher cut the grass.

  4. Pronouns Pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Examples I sing loudly in the shower. Everybody in the class is wearing a Halloween shirt. My mom made sugar cookies.

  5. Adjective An adjective is a word that describes a noun or a pronoun Example Sarah has curly hair.

  6. Verb Verb is the action of the sentence. It shows what someone or something is doing run throw paint

  7. Adverb Adverb describes how the action is performed. Examples: The fished jumped quickly from the water. The man sat alone.
