  2. Introductory text- gen 32: 24 • Gen 32:24 but he stayed behind, alone. Then a man came and wrestled with him until just before daybreak. • Gen 32:25 When the man saw that he was not winning the struggle, he hit Jacob on the hip, and it was thrown out of joint. • Gen 32:26 The man said, "Let me go; daylight is coming." "I won't, unless you bless me," Jacob answered.

  3. introduction • Gen 32:27 "What is your name?" the man asked. "Jacob," he answered. • Gen 32:28 The man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have struggled with God and with men, and you have won; so your name will be Israel."

  4. struggle • Gen 25:21 Because Rebecca had no children, Isaac prayed to the LORD for her. The LORD answered his prayer, and Rebecca became pregnant. • Gen 25:22 She was going to have twins, and before they were born, they struggled against each other in her womb.

  5. YOU CAN BE BLESSED BUT STILL HAVE SOME STRUGGLES • JACOB STARTED WITH STRUGGLE AT BIRTH • HE TRADED ESAUS BIRTHRIGHT. • JACOB WAS BORN WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT HE HAD TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. • JACOB HAD 66% OF THE BLESSING BUT WAS ALWAYS ON THE RUN.

  6. JACOB’S SPIRITUAL STRUGGLE • BOTH BOYS WERE NOT SPIRITUAL BUT THEIR PARENTS & GRANDPARENTS WERE GODLY. • Gen 26:5 I will bless you, because Abraham obeyed me and kept all my laws and commands."

  7. BOTH BOYS WERE STRUGGLING BUT JACOB WOULD SHOW UP @ EVENING SACRIFICES. • EVEN IN YOUR STRUGGLE, GET GODLY EXPOSURE

  8. POWER OF ASSOCIATIONS • IF YOU STAND NEAR A FIRE, YOU CATCH THE SMELL OF SMOKE.

  9. IF YOU SLEEP WITH THE DOGS, YOU SUFFER WITH TICK BITE

  10. JACOBS GREAT GOD ENCOUNTER @ bethel • Gen 28:11 ….   12. GODLY FAMILIES PRODUCE GODLY VALUES • CHILDREN WHO HAVE GODLY PARENTS HAVE AN ADVANTAGE AND AN HEDGE

  13. ESTABLISHMENT COMES THROUGH GOD. • IN HIS GREATEST STRUGGLE , JACOB HAS HIS GREATEST ESTABLISHMENT. • EVERYONE NEEDS A BETHEL

  14. AT BETHEL, GOD ADJUSTED JACOB’S POSTURE • PENTAGON: FOR A SOLDIER TO WIN, HIS POSTURE MUST BE RIGHTH. • PHYSIOLOGISTS: YOUR MIND TAKES COUNSEL FROM YOUR POSTURE.

  15. NEVER COME TO CHURCH LOOKING LIKE YOUR SITUATION, ALWAYS COME LOOKING LIKE YOUR DESTINY.

  16. The lesson • UNTIL THINGS ARE RIGHT WITH GOD, YOU CAN NEVER REALLY BE HAPPY.

  17. JUST WHEN HE WAS SPIRITUALLY FULFILLED, HE WANTED MORE RELATIONALLY

  18. HE SPENDS FOURTEEN YEARS WORKING FOR LOVE AND ANOTHER SIX YEARS WORKING FOR WEALTH BUT …. WAS STILL UNFULFILLED… GOD CALLS HIM BACK TO BETHEL.

  19. Gen 31:13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Now arise, go out from this land and return to the land of your kindred.'" • You are a spiritual being having a human experience, not a human being having a spiritual experience.

  20. SCHECHEM COMES WITH ITS OWN PROBLEM • IF YOU SETTLE AT THE WRONG DESTINATION, YOU WILL ENCOUNTER THE WRONG DESTINY. . . (Gen 33.19) • JACOBS DAUGHTER WAS DATE RAPED ATSCHECHEM
