  2. End marks are periods, exclamation points and question marks. These are the onlythingsthatcan finish a sentence.

  4. How to use a period You use a period: • At the end of a declarative sentence • At the end of an imperative sentence • At the end of an indirect sentence

  5. Declarative sentence • A declarative sentence is a sentence thatmakes a statement. It is a sentence you use whenyouwant to tell something. • Ex: Joe has a girlylaugh.

  6. Most of the time a declaritive sentence isshortened to one or twowords, especiallywhenanswering a question. • Ex: Where ismystraightener? My room.

  7. Imperative sentence • An imperative sentence is a sentence thatasks or tells someone to do dosomething. • Ex: Go throwthatawayplease.

  8. Whenan imperativesentence also expresses excitement or emotion, an exclamation point isusedafter it. • Ex: Getlost!

  9. Indirect question • An indirect question is the part of a statementthat tells whatsomeoneasked, but it doesn’tgive the excactwords of the person whoasked the question. • Ex: Myteacherasked me if I did all mywork.

  10. But rememberperiods are not onlyusedat the end of a sentence. You canalso use themafter an initial or abbreviation. • Ex: Mydentistis Dr. R. Wade. • Ex: Etc.

  15. Interrogative Sentence • An interrogative sentence is a sentence thatasks a question. • Ex: Didyousee the HungerGames? • This is a direct question, because it gives the exact words of the person whoasked the question.
