What is a subject, you may ask?

The subject of a verb is the person or thing which performs the action of that verb:Gordon travaille.Gordon is working.Mes parents habitent en Espagne.My parents live in Spain.La voiture ne veut pas démarrer.The car won't start.

  • To ask someone you know well if he/she likes something use the familiar form:

  • To ask someone you do not know well of is older than you are if he/she likes something, use the formal form:

Aimez-vous…?

Et toi?
  • “Et toi?” directly translates as “And you?”.
  • Use the phrase “et toi?” to respond and engage in conversation.
  • Example:

Très Bien Spongebob.

  • Sometimes in a sentence we do not use subject pronouns, but names of people to indicate who is doing the action
  • Ex: OR

Be careful to count how many people are performing the action in order to place the correct verb ending on your stem.

  • Ask yourself: which subject pronoun is being used?
