Learning Outcomes Most students should be able to: • Draw current–p.d. graphs for a resistor, a filament lamp and a diode. • Describe how the resistance of a filament lamp changes depending on the current through it. • Describe how the resistance of a diode depends on which way round it is connected in a circuit. • Describe how the resistance of a thermistor and light dependent resistor depend on the temperature and light level respectively. Some students should also be able to: • Explain the changes that take place in a series circuit including a thermistor or a LDR when the temperature or the light level changes.

  3. Starter • Imagine....... You are outside a room with three switches that control three light bulbs inside the room; one switch for each light. How can you work out which switch controls which light if you’re only allowed to open the door and go in the room once?

  4. Investigating Components Follow the instructions on the practical sheet, use the output control dial to alter the current through the components.

  5. Graphs • Draw graphs of each of your results. You should have negative results so your axis should be in the middle of your graph paper.

  6. Plenary • Complete the components quiz.
