  6. The initial conversation … Find someone you don’t know. Each take 2 minutes to share a “good news” story. Use your coaching strategies and stems.

  7. Coaching Strategies and Stems • Paraphrasing • Do I understand that…? • In other words …? • It sounds like …? • Clarifying • What do you mean by …? • Is it always the case that …? • How is…different from….?

  8. Put a lens on Questioning and DI

What’s new? • WINS resources focused on Grades K – 8, including open questions and parallel tasks • Gap Closing focused on Grade 6 Number Sense (1 hour) • Interactive White Board Lessons: TIPS 2.0 try these out! (grades 7-10) (½ hour) • CLIPS – the latest updates – bring your computer (Integers) (½ hour)

  11. Return to your board group • Report to your group what you saw/learned. • “lens” report: connect to Questioning or DI

  12. What needs attention? • What is/should be the role of the coach? • “I don’t have time/need to be coached.” • Federation/union issues? • What about a department that is “stuck”?

  13. What else needs attention? • At your table, discuss other issues you are having as a coach or with other initiatives. • Select 1 or 2 issues. • Whole group share.

  14. Graffiti • Move to 1 station with chart paper. Select a recorder. • Together brainstorm ideas or strategies to help address the issue. • After 8 minutes (on cue) move to the next station, read suggestions, and add some of your own. • Repeat….

Board visits 1:00 – 2:30 • 1:00-1:15 Board groups gather to organize • Always have 1 or 2 people from your group available at the station to answer questions. • Others “visit” other stations. • Switch so everyone has time to roam. • Leave your “progress/contact cards” available for pick up by others.

  24. When you have finished visiting… • Return to your Board table. • Share what you’ve learned. • What ideas can you draw upon to improve the experience of the students in your board?
