Perinatal Mortality and Congenital Anomalies: New Recommendations on Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnancy

This document discusses the 2009 and March 2010 outcomes related to perinatal mortality, congenital anomalies, and diabetes mellitus in pregnancy. New recommendations are presented based on macrossomic results and glucose levels. The updated criteria aim to address adverse pregnancy outcomes, potentially increasing the prevalence of gestational diabetes due to rising obesity rates. This could lead to more interventions, preterm births, cesarean sections, and neonatal ICU admissions. It highlights the importance of foot care in preventing amputations among diabetic patients, with insights from a study involving 160 women in Portugal.
