  2. The Land • The Midwest is covered with plains and grasslands and has many important lakes and rivers. • A huge underground collection of water is called aquifer. • As you can see in the diagram above,huge,swirling windstorms called tornadoes. • These grasslands are called prairies.

  3. Weather • Winds play a big part in this region’s weather. • When cold,dry winds from Canada mix with warm,moist winds from the Gulf of Mexico,big storms can form on the plains and prairies of the Midwest. • The climate in the Midwest is hot summers and cold winters.

  4. Settling in the Midwest • The land of the Midwest supported many different groups of people. • The Europeans,Africans,and Asians lived here.

  5. Industries and Resources. • In the Midwest we have many resources like rivers and lakes.We have many trees and different birds,deer,wolfs,foxes,coyotes,and moose. • We made bowls,knifes,Bowen arrows,and tools.
