One positive integer is 6 less than twice another. The sum of their squares is 569. Find the integers. 53. A rectangular auditorium seats 1200 people. The number of seats in each row exceeds the number of rows by 10. Find the number of seats in each row. 54. The hypotenuse of a right triangle is three times the length of one of the legs. The length of the other leg is feet. Find the lengths of the leg and hypotenuse. 55. The Extreme Rock Climbing Club planned a climbing expedition. 18. Applications from Practice Final Exam in Blackboard: 57. An airplane can travel 310 mph in still air. If it travels 1770 miles with the wind in the same length of time it travels 1330 miles against the wind, what is the speed of the wind? 58. A small motorboat travels 16 mph in still water. It takes 5 hours longer to travel 63 miles going upstream than it does going downstream. Find the rate of the current. (Round off your answer to the nearest tenth.) 59. An inlet pipe on a swimming pool can be used to fill the pool in 10 hours. The drain pipe can be used to empty the pool in 20 hours. If the pool is filled and then the inlet pipe and drain pipe are opened, how long from that time will it take to fill the pool? 60. Two companies working together can clear a parcel of land in 18 hours. Working alone, it would take Company A 10 hours longer to clear the land than it would Company B. To the nearest tenth of an hour, how long would it take Company B to clear the parcel of land alone? 61. An arrow is shot vertically upward from a platform 21 ft high at a rate of 188 ft per sec. When will the arrow hit the ground? Use the formula: . (Round off your answer to the nearest tenth.) • A ball is thrown vertically upward from the ground with an initial velocity of 109 ft per sec. Use . Step 1. Determine when the ball will reach its maximum height. (Round your answer to two decimal places.) Step 2. Determine what the maximum height will be. (Round your answer to two decimal places.)
