  4. 1. National Curriculum Levels Key Stage 2 SATs - English Maths and Science are used to give us Key stage 3 targets for the end of this year. We expect a pupil to improve a minimum of 2 sub levels a year and an aspirational target of 3 sub levels. E.g. Start Year 9 on 6c finish Year 9 on 6a

  5. 2. Reports Exceptional effort – 1 Pupil: works consistently very hard in lessons; actively participates in the learning activities; sometimes does additional work – “goes the extra mile”! Good effort – 2 Pupil: works consistently hard in lessons; regularly contributes to discussions; is keen to succeed; Minimum effort – 3 Pupil: generally works to a minimum expected standard; makes contributions when prompted; shows willingness to act on advice. Unacceptable level of effort – 4

What To Look For As A Parent • Look at the effort levels of your child and whether they are on target. • Have they made at least two or three sub levels of progress in their last school year • Speed of progress will vary throughout the year and between different subjects but there should be progress which will be determined by the effort being put into the lessons.

  7. What to Encourage as a Parent • They complete homework with care and accuracy. • They prepare thoroughly for assessments. • Boys write more fully and in greater depth. • That planners are being correctly filled in and that all tasks are completed. • Please check their work regularly, read it and ask questions.

  8. 1. Preparation for KS4 Year 9 • English and Maths enrichment year • Science- BTEC Science or Biology/Chemistry/Physics • Second language – G&T linguists Year 10 and 11 • Full option choices

Dates • 264 merits needed to ice skate on 18th/19th December • Feb 4th – Option Booklets available • Feb 7th - Options Information Evening for parents and pupils • Feb 28th - Year 9 parent evening discuss progress, some opportunity to discuss options • March 8th – all option choices in • May - June – confirmation of options

  15. Choosing courses at KS4 Choose a course that…. • They can succeed in • Contain those subjects they like best • Reflect their interests and personal qualities • Help them learn in their best way • Sets them up for a future life of work
