  2. How the spelling tests work: Students are given four (4) opportunities to spell all of the words correctly during each quarter. If they pass the test on try #1, 2, or 3 they do not have to take another spelling test (once you've passed, you're done for the quarter). As these are mastery spelling words for the district, this is an all-or-nothing grade. If they do not pass the test by try #4, they receive a zero. 2009 Test Dates:

  4. all right Sample Sentence: Your answers are all right. Definition: satisfactorily; acceptably Tip/Trick: “alright” is a ‘slang’ version of this word

  5. a lot Sample Sentence: There is a lot of stuff here. Definition: Very many, a large number; also, very much Tip/Trick: Make sure you leave a noticeable space between the ‘a’ and ‘lot,’ since they are two separate words!

  25. quite Sample Sentence: It is quite a lengthy novel. Definition: completely, wholly, or entirely; actually, really, or truly; to a considerable extent or degree.

  26. receive Sample Sentence: Did you receive any mail yesterday? Definition: to take into one's possession (something offered or delivered) Tip/Trick: USE the ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’ rule here!

  35. weather Sample Sentence: The weather is beautiful today. Definition: the state of the atmosphere with respect to wind, temperature, cloudiness, moisture, pressure, etc. Tip/Trick: “whether” refers to alternatives like yes/no.
