STFC Science and Society Fellowship • 25% FTE for 2 years • Began on 1st October 2007 • National Science Learning Centre (in York) • CPD training for teachers • Resources for teachers • Reviewing ideas for experiments • Discussing the scientific method • Work with local schools,museums, local groups - Café Sci, lectures, debates… • Public lectures, articles for magazines…

Community initiatives • IoP half-day meeting on outreach - comparing nuclear to particle and astronomy • CPD workshop for teachers • Organised by York, Liverpool and Manchester • Initial event Summer 2008 at NSLC, York • Topics: Nuclear Physics/Astrophysics, Medicine and Energy • Sixth-form conference at York College • Topics similar to above • More involvement e.g. debate, presentations by 6th formers • Work out a good format which could be repeated elsewhere

How can we help each other? • Working together as a community will allow us to be more ambitious in outreach: • I have time to spend on new initiatives • I could help you to organise something in your region • Are there ongoing activities in your area which we could link into? • Links with IoP, BA, STFC
