  2. POETRY JOURNAL ENTRY (TOPIC SENTENCE) The poem, El Dorado by Edgar Allen Poe, is about searching for one’s dreams. (THIS MEANS) The speaker has searched the world his whole life for El Dorado but dies without finding it. EXAMPLE (TEXT EVIDENCE) El Dorado is a metaphor for searching. The whole poem is a metaphor for what one searches for throughout life instead of being content with what one has. CONCLUSION The sad poem shows a wasted life of searching for an unfound Utopia.
