Phase 1 Long Term Options in numbers • Over 100 hundred submissions received • 52 proposals (some multiple options) • 3 gaps identified • 58 Templates for first sift • 10 surface transport proposals compressed into 3 options • 1 “no new runways / airport operations max” option • 1 do nothing / assessment of need Result = 3 credible options shortlisted, 1 option subjected to further work to assess credibility

  2. How the AC’s assessments differed from Promoters Cost Noise Promoter used different models to assess noise if at all INM v. ANCON No noise measurements • There were many differences in methodology and level of detail between proposals • Comparison required equalisation of methods • Each promoter had different assumptions • Risk amount • Surface transport • Unknown quantity

Phase 2 Appraisal Framework in numbers • Over 80 submissions received • 25 objectives • 16 modules • 5 design elements • 3 options to appraise (possibly 4) • 1 business case and appraisal of sustainability per option • 1 consultation Result = Government receives a recommendation of how to ensure the UK maintains its aviation hub status and materials to support preparation of a National Policy Statement
