  2. Who Helps Us? Additional teaching and support staff – MrsHarvie (Tues, Wed and Thurs) MrsYeomans teaching R.E one afternoon a week Mr Cadman - woodwork We work closely together planning and sharing information.

  3. Routines/Timetable PE – Tuesday and Friday Forest School- Wednesday Golden Mile – weekly RE – Tuesday Music & Choir – Wednesday Phonics– daily Handwriting - daily Reading time – daily Shoulder partners are changed every week

  4. What do the children need? • PE kit – including outdoor PE kit (joggers, thick top & trainers) • Old shirt or T shirt for art and design • Outdoor clothes in school • Reading book and journal every day • Pencil cases are not allowed in school

Reading • In Year 2 we encourage the children to change their books regularly during reading time • Independent reading • Guided Reading • Free Writing • Word Fun • Library • Please try to find time to read for 5-10 minutes a day • Children may change their book in the morning if they have finished it

  7. Phonics and Magic Words • Magic words will be a home activity that can be completed in their magic word books. Magic words will be given every Thursday and are to be completed for the following Wednesday. • Phonics will take place daily – Phonics is part of English and is not a separate subject.

Homework • Homework reinforces work in the classroom • On a Thursday your child will bring home their homework files • Homework will be set on a Thursday and collected the following Wednesday. • I would like the Children to feel responsible for handing their homework in but I will check their journal folders just in case. • Please let us know of any problems!

  9. Behaviour/ Rewards • Pear Tree rules • Yellow class rules • Learning Powers • Sun star & clouds • Class rewards • Recognising their worth as individuals • Doing their best

  10. Year 2 Expectations! In Year 2 we encouragethechildren to become more independent. • Collect belongings at the end of the day (jumpers). • Change reading books when necessary (will be prompted to do so if child forgets). • Hand letters / homework in on time. • Keep journals in reading folders. • Don’t Panic!! For all of the above - your child will be prompted to do so if they forget or subsequently we will organise them when we check the journals/ journal folders each day.

  11. Standards and the National Expectations • The National Assessments or SATS take place at the end of each Key Stage. They are carried out in Year 2 and 6. • The assessments are not referred to as SATS with the children- simply special quizzes or special work.

  12. As part of our learning……. We do exciting things: • Local habitat walks • Nantwich museum • Northwich salt museum • Chirk castle • Residential to Beeston Outdoor Education Centre –31st March - 1 April 2014 • Nantwich library

  13. Learning Expectations Children are encouraged to do their best & work hard…….. Maths, English, Science, ICT, PE, D&T, History, Geography, RE, Art, Music, Drama and Forest Schools.
