THE ROLE OF PRE-PRIMARY TEACHER IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH

Preschool children are very young and need supervision at all times. They need a safe and secure environment so they feel comfortable. Away from their lovely home, they find it hard to cope up with the new environment. If they are welcomed each day with loving warmth and security, their confidence will get a boost and they will find it far easier to feel comfortable in the world around them. The teacher is the only one who can create this atmosphere in their classroom. As during school hours, these children depend on the teacher for comfort and assurance.<br>

  1. THE ROLE OF PRE-PRIMARY TEACHER IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH Preschool children are very young and need supervision at all times. As during school hours, these children depend on the teacher for comfort and assurance. Pre-primary teachers play a very important role in building a child’s success. Teachers do several things that facilitate arts and crafts projects throughout the day. They provide help in different ways to children growing in their reading and writing skills, teach science and help children understand themselves. Preschool teachers support a child’s personal, academic, and social progress during a crucial stage of development. Preschool teachers focus on basic things in the classroom that help to build up their: • Social and emotional development • Mathematical thinking • Scientific thinking • Social studies • Physical development • Language and literacy • The arts These areas of development in preschool children will ensure they are prepared and ready for future academic experiences. Preschool lays the basic foundation for kids and to understand what “school” actually is. Teachers often use a variety of methods to help children grow cognitively and conceptually as well. A positive relationship between child and preschool teachers can make an exponential difference in a child’s success as they continue through elementary school. When planning for children’s development, teachers determine specific goals and outcomes they want the child to achieve during play. Teachers individualize children, keeping in mind their level of cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language development. Teachers can set the goal of

  2. increasing the amount of expressive language a child uses throughout the day. For this, the teacher might conduct a dramatic play area where one child engages with another child verbally. Children learn to use play as a valuable tool for children’s learning. The critical role of the teacher is to include facilitation, engagement, and appropriate individualization for each child’s development. Planning for development with play must be important. Teachers must focus on creating opportunities for higher-level thinking by incorporating time, space, and materials for play. Children watch and learn everything that an adult does, so a pre-primary school teacher can be a role model in the eyes of your children. Social skills, such as getting with others, and can be modeled through your actions and words. If you will use words such as “please” and “thank you” then the children will learn how to be courteous and polite. They will look at you how you clean and put toys away to keep the room neat and tidy. As you do your tasks, talk to the children about what you are doing and feeling. Modeling is a very powerful teaching that can play an important role in child development. The pre-primary teacher training courses teach all these essential skills to the teachers who wish to make their career in pre-primary schooling or enhance their pre-primary teaching skills. Summary-Teaching children are the toughest task and require a lot of patience and love to teach new things. This is the time when you cannot teach them according to your perceptions and feelings as they are too young to understand the significance of attending the school. They can only be taught with the things around them or the games and the toys which they like the most. The teacher becomes second mother to them if they are successful in building the bond of love and trust with the tiny toddlers.
