  3. Earth’sMantle • Hot dense rock • 1,800 miles • 2 parts • Hot dense rock that flows • Convection currents deal with plate tectonics

  4. Earth’s Crust • 3-5 miles under the ocean • 25 miles under the continents • 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit • Broken into plates above the hot mantle • Subducting and layering rock

Landforms • Types of landforms: valleys, mountains, plateaus, plains • Other types: hills, and glaciers • Mountains rise when crust collides • Plateaus form as magma pushes toward surface • Magma fails to reach surface, building rock • How valleys formed • Plains result from eroded and elevated terrain

  6. Atmosphere • More than the air we breathe • Ozone layer absorbs ultraviolet light • Communication radio waves bounce off • Incinerates meteorites coming towards Earth • Layers: tropos, stratos, mesos, ionos, and exosphere

  7. Earth’s Water • Seal level rising1 to 2 millimeters • Average North American uses 400 liters/ day • About 768 million people don’t have access • 2.5 billion cant access adequate sanitation
