  1. General Study Tips Katrina Snyder

  2. Notes • Keep notes organized • Use separate notebooks for separate subjects • Keep topics separated to avoid confusion • Write neatly • Set up a system or way of denoting definitions • Note taking • Don’t copy everything word for word, that’s not how you’re going to remember it • Write down the practice problems and examples • For math and science:write down the method or explanation behind answers • Use plenty of room, stop trying to cram things in a little space

  3. Methods for Studying • Rewrite your notes-it will help retain information • Make your own flashcards • Practice your flashcards • Use websites like quizlet.com (type in the name of your textbook and the topic or chapter, I almost guarantee it’s on there already) • Use the games and practice tests on quizlet, not just their flashcards • Teach the information to someone else • Study in groups, help each other on tough ideas • Reread your notes and the passages in your textbook • Use any practice on your teachers eboard • Not everyone learns the same way, find what method works best for you

  4. Organize your information into “chunks” and study by chunks • Bring home your textbook-useful for definitions, more detail, practice problems, and charts • Look at handouts your teachers give you • Study your flash cards during dead time • Study information several times, not just once the night before • Keep track of test and assignment dates in advance • Use highlighters and underlying for key information • Use keywords to remember information

  5. Study in the same place • Use a study schedule • Take breaks and don’t try to do all your studying in one night • Keep your distractions minimal • Make sure you have all your study materials with you

  6. When you get frustrated take a break • Get up and stretch or walk around during breaks • Make sure you have eaten and have something to drink to avoid distraction • Borrow a copy of classmates’ notes and use along with your own • Recopy your notes in an order that make sense to you • Ask your teacher for extra help • Use extra online practice
