THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ROUND TABLE • To develop the fellowship of young men through the medium of their business and professional occupations and community service activities. • To encourage active and responsible citizenship by cultivating the highest ideals in business, professional and civic traditions. • To promote the extension of the Association. • To promote and further international understanding, friendship and cooperation.
WHAT IS ROUND TABLE • International association of young men from 18-40 years of age • Who have devoted some of their free time to build new friendships and undertake community service activities. • Over 40 000 members from 65 countries around the world and we form a closely knit network. • Neither a political nor a religious group. • Members commonly addressed to as Tablers (Tr. in short). • In Sri Lanka, Round Table currently consists of: • 55 members • A National association, Round Table Sri Lanka with 4 Tables or clubs. • The 4 Tables are: • Colombo Round Table 1, • Colombo Serendib Round Table 2 • Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3 – who brings you this event today • Colombo Cinnamon Round Table 4
Social Service Projects • Among the most notable contributions by Round table in Sri Lanka is the construction of 3 schools after the Asian Tsunami disaster. • These schools today house over 2,000 students. • Cost $2 million to build, funded mainly by International Tables, • The current National projects: • “Kids Off the Streets”(KOS) - Tablers in Sri Lanka have built several Children’s community centers • “Have U Heard”- an Audiology school. • Previous projects include vocational training centres, Eye care clinics, etc. • For more information visit Round Table Sri Lanka at: www.rtsrilanka.org
THE PHILOSPHY OF KOS • The philosophy behind KOS is to ensure young children have a place to go, where they can get away from the streets and its dangers. • We believe that providing good infrastructure facilities will encourage youngsters off the street.
ACTIVITES AT KOS CENTRES • Above centers provide children with the facilities to carry out: • Music • Art • Sport Skills • Vocational training for over 14 year olds in the areas of Handy Craft, Hand loom, Mason and tailoring etc. • Apart from the above, these centers will provide informal education which is extremely effective as a form of assistance for their schools.
OUR PARTNER - LOCAL • The day to day management of the facilities are done by the NCPA. • The NCPA depends on organizations such as ours to help develop infrastructure, as their limited funds are used for daily running of these centers. For more details visit http://www.childprotection.gov.lk/.
On Going Project - Drop in Centre in Redimaliya – Badulla with the NCPA The Building will consist of • 4 dorm rooms • 01 dining hall • 01 Kitchen • Toilets • Office Estimated cost is Rs 6 million, Infrstructure will be provided by CTRT3 KOS Project and the day to day management by the NCPA The Drop in Centre will provide the following: • Provide a safe home for children who are vulnerable to violence, abuse, exploitation or neglect • The safe home will house the children until they have been allocated a safe guardian by a court procedure • The NCPA officers employed at the safe home, will ensure all children in the safe and their rights protected.
