  3. Why STEM Academy? High demand, high wage jobs require STEM skills Opportunity to earn college credits in high school Opportunity to be challenged

Classification of STEM Students • STEM60 – STEM Academy students seeking an associate degree • Degree is an Interdisciplinary degree with a STEM focus • Requires students to attend courses at Central Texas College in 11th & 12th Grade • Requires all 9th graders to take a PATH/Dual Credit Learning Framework course • Has milestones that students must meet to continue each year. • STEM42 – STEM Academy students seeking 42 college credit hours from the approved Core 42 curriculum list with CTC. • STEM30 – STEM Academy students seeking 30 college credit hours from the approved Core 42 curriculum list with CTC. • STEM – STEM Academy students who are seeking less than 30 college credit hours (or none at all) .

  5. College Knowledge in High School • 150% Rule & Financial Aid • Financial Aid is suspended after a student attempts 150% of the college credits required for their degree. For example, if the degree requires 60 credit hours, the student will lose financial aid if they attempt more than 90 credit hours. • Repeating Courses • Tuition changes to the “Out of State” tuition rate if the student is challenging a college course for the 3rd time. • Transferability • All college courses do not transfer to every college/university. • Take college courses with a specific goal and plan in mind.

  6. Student Choice The decision is yours. We want to be as flexible as we can be to afford every student the opportunities provided through our STEM Academy. Review your course requests for 9th grade. Visit with your counselor if you want to make a change.
