  1. What are Some Kinds of Chemical Reactions? Ch.2,lesson3 By Rosaleena

  2. Chemical Equations • A substance used in the reaction is called a reactant • A substance made by the reaction is called a product • A chemical equation shows what happens during a chemical reaction.

  3. Chemical Reactions • Magnesium is a silvery metal • Because of this, magnesium is often used in fireworks • This powder, magnesium oxide, is the product of reaction

  4. Matter Is Always Conserved • Matter cannot be created or destroyed during a chemical reaction • The mass of the ingredients equals the mass of the water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases that waft from the oven, making the cake smell good

  5. Types of Chemical Reactions • There are 3 kinds of chemical reactions: • Decomposition Reaction: Compounds split part to form smaller compounds or elements. • Combination Reaction: Elements or compounds come together to form new compounds. • Replacement Reaction: Two or more compounds split apart and the atoms switch places to form different compounds.
